Flagpoles

Come Flag Day, will you be able to say for yourself that you are really ready for the mounting process of your flagpole? You may think that the mounting process of flagpoles is easy to do. Although mounting flagpoles can indeed be easy, there are still things to consider. Yes, there can be certain difficulties when mounting flagpoles. This is why you should consider such possibilities when you are preparing your very own flagpole. You would not want to be known as the only one in the neighborhood who was not able to prop up a flag on Flag Day.

So, what are the things to remember when prepping your own flagpole? Before you go on to a flag pole hardware store, you have to consider the height of your flagpole first. What is the height that you want for your flagpole? And is the site for your flagpole appropriate for this height? Aside from the height, you have to make sure that your flagpole can be seen from all possible angles as well. This way, you are sure that the site for your flagpole is indeed the best one. But do not perch your flagpole too high. High flagpoles would be uncomfortable to view. Your neighbors would be craning their very necks just to get a glimpse of your flagpole. Do not perch your flagpole too low as well. Doing such would defeat the purpose of setting up flagpoles as well.

After choosing the site for your flagpole, you can then move on to the material that you would want for your piece. Most garden flag poles actually come in aluminum. There are a lot of aspects as to why this is the preferred material for flagpoles. First off, aluminum is a very strong material. It is quite sturdy, compared to other materials. In spite of its sturdy quality, aluminum is not heavy at all. What’s more, it does not need high maintenance as well. Thus, having a flagpole made of aluminum would not be of any hassle to you at all, when it comes to maintenance. And it is not expensive at all. All the more convenient for you then.

Another popular material for flagpoles is fiberglass. This is actually the second most popular material for flagpoles. Fiberglass flagpoles have a glossy coat of gel for its finish. And this property makes it immune to scratching and soiling over time. Thus, it would not be that much of a hassle when it comes to maintenance as well. However, fiberglass is quite an expensive material. But you are guaranteed quality for your money.

Next thing to choose would be whether you would want an external halyard system or an internal halyard system. This system is actually the means for raising and lowering your flag. This system is composed of either a cable or a rope, and a truck or pulley that is placed at the top of the flagpole. The pulley is actually the mechanism that supports the motion of the flag. By definition, the external halyard system is placed on the outer portion of the flagpole. With external rigging, the system is locked in place by the mere act of wrapping the remaining cable or rope around what is called a cleat, situated at the base of the pole. The internal halyard system is basically the same as its external counterpart. The only difference is that it is rigged at the inner portion of the flagpole. So, which of the two should you choose? Whatever is more convenient for you should be the choice. But if live in an area where vandalism is rampant, then it would be better to choose the internal halyard system. This way, vandalism can be avoided.
